Find lost AirPods
Use Find My to see your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max on a map and play a sound to find them.
About the Find app
Find My is the only option that allows you to search for or track a lost or stolen device. There is no other Apple service that allows you to find, track, or mark the location of your device.
To find your AirPods, you need to set up Find My with the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that you use with your AirPods. Before trying to find your AirPods, you must update to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS.
You can also find AirPods on the web at iCloud.com. Depending on the AirPods model, the web experience may be different and some features may not be available.
If you didn’t turn on Find My before you lost your AirPods, you won’t be able to use this feature to find them. How To Find Your AirPods
View AirPods on a map
If you’ve lost your AirPods, you can find them with the Find My app on the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac device where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID. For AirPods Pro (2nd generation), you can also find the charging case on the map if it’s not in the same location as your AirPods.
See your AirPods in the Find My app
- Open the Find My app.
- Select the Devices tab.
- Select the AirPods. Under each device, a location or a message stating “Location not found” will appear.
Activate the Find network
If you turn on the Find My network, you might be able to see the location of your AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro (2nd generation), or AirPods Max even if your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn’t connected to a cellular network or Wi-Fi.
- On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, open the Settings app.
- Select your name and then Find.
- Select the Find My [device] option, then turn it on.
- Turn on Find Network.
Play a sound on AirPods
If your AirPods are near any of your Apple devices and they’re connected to Bluetooth, you can play a sound to search for them. With AirPods Pro (2nd generation), you can also play a sound to search for the charging case.
- Open the Find My app.
- Select the Devices tab.
- Select the AirPods in the list.
- Tap Play Sound to play a sound that will gradually increase in volume.
Make sure you don’t put your AirPods in your ears before playing a sound.
Get an alert if you forget your AirPods
If you have an iPhone 12 or later, you can set up forgotten alerts so you don’t leave your AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro (2nd generation), or AirPods Max in an unknown location.
- Open the Find My app.
- Go to the Devices tab and select AirPods.
- Under Notifications, tap Forget Notification.
- Turn on the Forget Notification option.
Activate the Lost Mode of the AirPods
When you turn on Lost Mode for AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro (2nd generation) or AirPods Max, you can share a message with your phone number or email address. If a person finds the AirPods, the message appears on the iPhone.
To activate Lost Mode, follow these steps:
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, open the Find My app.
- Go to the Devices tab and select AirPods.
- Scroll down to Mark as lost and select Activate.
- Follow the steps on the screen if you want to show the contact information of the lost AirPods.
- Select Activate
If AirPods are offline
If your AirPods are out of range or discharged, you might see the last known location, “Location not found” message, or “No connection” message.
You won’t be able to play a sound to search for them, but you will be able to get directions to where they were last connected. If they come back online, you’ll receive a notification on the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac device you’re using them with.
